In 2014, we began planting our own hops on the Folksbier Family Farm in Northern Michigan. Just north of the 45th Parallel, in Harbor Springs, MI, we have cordoned off a square acre of farmland dedicated to growing a number of different hops for our exclusive use. Ranging from American Pacific Northwest to Traditional Noble Hop varieties, these hops will provide a one-of-a-kind quality to every beer we make.

We have a range of different varieties, including German noble hops such as Hallertau (pictured above) and American varieties such as Cascade and Chinook.
Annual Hop Training
Every hop bine needs to be individually wrapped to train its growth upwards. Here, Mel Kauffman winds a hop bine clockwise around the rope trellis.
